Intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatment

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

IUI first collects the male's semen, and then selects sperm with normal vitality and morphology through optimization processing. During or before the female's ovulation period, a sterile catheter is inserted into the uterine cavity through the cervix and the sperm suspension is injected, so that the sperm does not need to swim through the cervix, increasing the chance of combining with the egg.

Artificial Insemination Steps (IUI Process)

  • The patient lies on a sterile treatment bed, and the doctor inserts the examination instrument in a gynecological examination manner to clearly expose the cervix.
  • The processed sperm is injected into the uterine cavity through a small catheter, and the process takes about 10-15 minutes.
  • The patient rests in bed for 30 minutes.
  • You can carry out your daily activities normally after returning home, and return for a follow-up check-up two weeks later as scheduled by the doctor for a blood test to check whether you are pregnant.

IUI Success Rates

Artificial insemination (IUI), as an assisted reproductive technology, is still widely used in clinical practice, mainly due to its relatively simple operation process and a certain level of success rate.
However, the pregnancy outcome of artificial insemination is affected by a combination of factors, including the woman's age, ovarian reserve and functional status, sperm quality, and endometrial receptivity.

IUI success rates for different age groups: The success rate for women under 35 is 20% - 25%
The success rate for women in their early 30s or younger is 15%
The success rate for women in their early 40s is 10%
The success rate for women aged 35 to 40 is 5%

Who is suitable for artificial insemination (IUI)?

  • Ovulation problems, irregular menstrual cycles, cervical atresia, women under 35 years old
  • Men with sexual dysfunction, premature ejaculation and couples with no specific cause of infertility.

Who is not suitable for artificial insemination?

  • Blocked fallopian tubes, severe endometriosis, age over 40
  • Men with severe sperm count abnormalities

Advantages of Artificial Insemination (IUI)

Artificial insemination is a natural infertility treatment method with simple operation. It is very effective for couples with low sperm count and poor motility and couples whose semen cannot pass through the female cervical mucus. It can increase the chance of pregnancy and has little interference with human physiology. It has certain clinical advantages and convenience.

Preparation

Female

  • During the menstrual cycle 1-5 days start taking ovulation-inducing drugs.
  • The doctor will arrange an ultrasound to check the condition of the eggs and uterine wall, and perform a blood test to determine the specific day and time that is most suitable for fertilization.

Male

  • On the day of the operation, the doctor will arrange for the collection of semen for insemination. To ensure the quality of sperm, men need to abstain from sex for about 3-5 days in advance.
  • The collected sperm will be processed in the laboratory and the best sperm will be selected for insemination.
